About the maker

Started in a kitchen, now at the foot of Ben Nevis

Emma Parton started making soap in her own kitchen in the 1990s. She wanted natural skincare that looked beautiful, smelled lovely and felt good. She sold her first soap in her father's shop in Spean Bridge.

Together with Archie MacDonald she grew Highland Soap Co. into a family business with its own workshop near Fort William, between Old Inverlochy Castle and the River Lochy, overlooking Ben Nevis.

• Handmade in small batchesCold-process soap that cures for about four weeks. Mild and moisturising, also for dry or sensitive skin.
• Natural and organicOrganic, natural raw materials from suppliers they can check themselves, complemented by wild plants from the Highlands.
• Their own bog myrtle oilThey distil the essential oil of bog myrtle themselves in a copper still, from wild-harvested plants.
• Free from SLS and parabensNo synthetic foaming agents such as SLS and SLES in the soap, and no parabens in creams and lotions.
• Cruelty-free and vegetarianNot tested on animals. Almost everything is vegan; only products with organic honey are not.
• Thoughtful packagingBottles made from sugarcane plastic and recycled material, refills and solar panels on the workshop roof.
