Two makers, two characters
Almost all our throws come from two British makers. The main difference is the wool they use, and you can feel it.
Bronte by Moon is part of Abraham Moon & Sons, which has been weaving wool in Guiseley, Yorkshire since 1837. It is one of the last British mills to do everything in-house: from raw wool through dyeing, spinning and weaving to the finished throw.
Tweedmill is a family business from Wales that has been making wool blankets and throws since 1971. Classic tartans, herringbone and cheerful stripes in new wool, plus a line in recycled wool.

A tartan is more than a check: each pattern belongs to a Scottish clan, a regiment or a region. Find the check that suits you.
All about wool
Wool was made by a sheep that had to survive wind and weather. That’s why it does things no synthetic blanket can. But not all wool is the same.
Wool from lambs: the very first shearing, so the finest and softest fibre. Shetland wool comes from a small, hardy Scottish breed and is the finest wool of all British breeds.
Feels: light, airy and soft, with a natural, slightly dry grip.
Ideal for: anyone looking for a light throw to curl up under on the sofa.
Lambswool throws →Merino sheep have an extra fine, tightly crimped fibre. As lambswool it is even softer. The crimp traps lots of air, so even a thin throw is warm.
Feels: silky soft and supple; drapes beautifully over the armrest.
Ideal for: sensitive skin and anyone who loves soft and refined.
Bronte by Moon throws →Wool that is spun and woven for the first time, so not recycled. The fibre is slightly thicker than lambswool and makes a full, sturdy throw that keeps its shape for years.
Feels: full, warm and sturdy; the classic wool blanket.
Ideal for: everyday use, families and cold evenings.
New wool throws →Wool offcuts are pulled apart into loose fibres and spun again. This gives wool a second life without new raw materials. Because the fibres are mixed, every throw is slightly different in colour.
Feels: sturdy and slightly coarser, with a mottled, rustic look.
Ideal for: anyone who wants to choose sustainably and loves a one-off.
Recycled wool throws →Care
Good news: wool needs little care. Airing is usually enough. You wash it rarely, and always according to the label.
Grandma’s tip
In the old days, wool blankets and rugs weren’t washed but laid in fresh snow. In Scandinavia they still do it. Cold, dry snow lifts dust and dirt out of the fibres, and the frost makes the wool airy again. Sadly we don’t get snow every winter any more. But when it’s there…
No snow? Hang your throw outside for a few hours on a clear, frosty day. That freshens the wool too.
Which size?
Good to know: our sizes include the fringe, unless it says ‘Without fringe’. The fringe is about 7 cm at each end, so the woven part is about 14 cm shorter.
